Hey, welcome back. I’m Shereen, and this is This Week’s Magic, your weekly astrological weather report.
So, hi. It’s been a minute. I took a little break from the podcast because in June I started a Master’s program at Columbia University in Psychology and Spirituality, which, honestly, I’m still pinching myself about. It’s been extraordinary and disorienting in equal measure, and the timing of it, starting a graduate program in the spiritual dimensions of human psychology right in the middle of what might be one of the most astrologically significant stretches of the decade, has not been lost on me.
Actually, I want to share something I read recently because it stopped me cold. Dr. Lisa Miller, who runs the Spirituality Mind Body Institute at Columbia, poses this question in her work: could it be that we have a spiritual biological clock? That the despair, the disorientation, the anger, the sorrow, the fear of disconnection and purposelessness that we sometimes feel, could all of that be a built-in mechanism that drives us toward deeper connection with life itself?
I’ve been sitting with that question since I read it, and I keep coming back to astrology. Because if there is a spiritual biological clock, I think astrology might be one of the ways we read it. Not just personally, in our charts and transits, but collectively. The timing of when we as a species face certain kinds of pressure, ask certain kinds of questions, break certain kinds of structures down so something new can be built. I might make that the center of my final project in the program. But I wanted to share it with you because it feels like exactly the right lens for what we’re about to talk about today.
Because what’s happening in the sky right now, and I mean right now, this week and the next two weeks, is genuinely unlike anything I’ve covered in this series. So let’s get into it.
First, the New Moon in Cancer — July 14th
Everything starts with the New Moon in Cancer that was exact on July 14th at 5:44 AM Eastern, at 21 degrees 59 minutes of Cancer. Which rounds up to 22 degrees, and the Sabian Symbol for 22 Cancer is this: a woman awaiting a sailboat.
I want you to sit with that image for a second. A woman on the shore. Not chasing the boat. Not in the water trying to swim to it. Standing at the edge, watching the horizon, trusting that what’s coming is coming. Receptive. Present. Certain without being controlling.
That image became the organizing metaphor for everything I want to say today. Because here’s what’s true right now: the sailboat is coming. It’s just off on the horizon. And because Mercury is retrograde, conjunct this New Moon and still in Cancer until it stations direct on July 23rd, the trajectory isn’t perfectly clear yet. The water is a little misty. What’s arriving might not fully reveal itself until Mercury clears its shadow, and honestly some of it won’t be clear until eclipse season. But something is shifting. Something is coming in. And the invitation right now is to stand on the shore and trust that.
Two aspects shape the tone of this New Moon. Mercury retrograde conjunct the lunation means whatever you’re planting as an intention right now isn’t a brand new idea. It’s something that’s been circling. Something you’ve thought about before, put down, come back to, haven’t quite been able to name. This Moon is the moment it finally gets named. That’s different from starting over. This is more like returning to something that was already yours.
And Saturn in Aries squares this New Moon, which gives it an edge underneath the softness. Cancer wants emotional safety. Saturn says, okay, but is that safety real? Is it structurally sound, or does it just feel cozy right now? That tension is baked into this lunar cycle. The comfort has to be earned.
Before we get to the week itself, I need to tell you about André Barbault
André Barbault was a French astrologer, born in 1921, died in October 2019, a week after his 98th birthday. He spent his career doing something most astrologers don’t attempt: applying astrology to history at scale. Not individual charts. The actual movement of civilization.
His tool was something called the Cyclic Index, which he built on earlier work by another French astrologer named Henri-Joseph Gouchon. The concept is mathematical and actually quite elegant. Take the five outer planets: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. Measure all ten possible angular distances between each pair of planets. Add them together. That total number is your Cyclic Index reading for that moment in time.
When the outer planets are clustered close together, that total is low. When they’re spread out across the zodiac, the total is high.
Here’s the historical pattern Barbault documented: when the Cyclic Index is low and the planets are clustered, the collective tends to experience crisis. War. Pandemic. Economic collapse. He identified the Black Death, the Great Plague of London, the Spanish Flu, and COVID-19 as all occurring during low Cyclic Index periods. He predicted COVID in 2011. He died in October 2019 and never saw the prediction fulfilled.
But here’s the part most people miss, and it’s the most important part of his work for right now. Barbault also described what happens when the Cyclic Index rises back up. When the planets begin to spread out and disperse after a clustering, he called it a period of reconstruction. Of rebuilding. Of civilization reorganizing itself after a contraction.
The Barbault Basket, which is what people are talking about when they talk about July 2026, is specifically that. The Basket is a configuration where the outer planets are not just spread out but forming harmonious angles with each other, trines and sextiles, flowing and supportive geometry. This is the rising phase. The relaunch phase. Barbault literally used the phrase relaunch of civilization to describe this period.
Now I want to be clear about what that does and doesn’t mean. It doesn’t mean utopia arrives on a specific Tuesday. It doesn’t mean everything gets fixed. It means the sky is architecturally supportive of building something new. The ground is more fertile. The conditions favor reconstruction over destruction. What gets built is still up to us.
The planetary lineup: eight transits in ten days
Okay. Here’s what’s actually happening.
Starting July 15th, one day after the New Moon, we have eight major planetary transits firing off in ten days. I’m going to walk you through each one.
July 15th: Uranus sextiles Neptune. Innovation meets vision. New ways of seeing and building start to crystallize. These are both outer planets moving slowly, so this isn’t a one day thing, it’s a window opening. Expect glimpses of what’s possible that you haven’t been able to see clearly before.
July 18th: Uranus trines Pluto. This is the one that makes transformation feel available rather than forced. Radical change that actually sticks because it’s flowing, not coerced. When Uranus and Pluto work together harmoniously like this, the kind of shifts that usually come with a lot of friction and resistance can happen more cleanly. Take note of what shifts for you around this date.
July 20th is a double hit and the most complex day of the lineup. Jupiter trines Neptune, which is expansive, dreamy, genuinely one of the more beautiful aspects of the year. Dreams that are actually ready to become real get a massive boost here. Spiritual clarity, creative flow, the sense that something you’ve been hoping for is not just possible but imminent. And on that exact same day, Jupiter opposes Pluto. This one has teeth. Power and growth facing off against transformation and what’s hidden. On the collective level, watch for significant shifts in structures of power. On the personal level, something that has been growing might come up against something that needs to be released or transformed. The expansion and the confrontation are both true on the 20th.
July 21st: Jupiter sextiles Uranus. This is breakthrough energy. Innovation meets opportunity. The kind of day where something surprising arrives and it turns out to be exactly what you needed. Say yes to what surprises you today.
July 23rd: Mercury stations direct. The fog lifts. Whatever has felt murky, delayed, or stuck during this retrograde starts moving again. Don’t expect everything to clear instantly, Mercury still has to work through its shadow period. But the direction reverses and things begin to unstick.
July 25th: Neptune sextiles Pluto. I want to give this one its own moment because it’s the quietest and the deepest. Neptune and Pluto move so slowly that their alignments are generational. This is spiritual evolution and structural transformation working together in a flowing, supportive way. Not dramatic on the surface. But for the history books. This is the kind of aspect future astrologers will look back on as part of the signature of this entire era.
The 4 degree activation
Here’s what ties all of this together geometrically. Several of these planets are currently clustered around 4 degrees. Jupiter at 4 Leo. Pluto at 4 Aquarius. Uranus at 4 Gemini. Neptune at 4 Aries. Four planets. Four signs. Four degrees.
That is an extraordinary activation point. When this many outer planets sit at the same degree across multiple signs, the aspects between them are firing simultaneously and the collective energy is concentrated in a very specific way.
If you have personal planets or angles around 4 degrees of any sign, pay attention this month. You’re going to feel this lineup more directly and personally than most. I’d genuinely recommend talking to an astrologer if that’s you. And I don’t say that just to say it. Astrology is part science and part art. The science part is understanding what the aspects mean. The art part is being able to hold all the pieces of your specific chart together into a coherent story that’s actually yours. A real astrologer can do that for you in a way that a general reading never quite can.
The North Node shift: July 27th
And then on July 27th, something shifts that will shape the next year and a half of collective life.
The Lunar Nodes change signs. The North Node moves from Pisces into Aquarius. The South Node moves from Virgo into Leo. This axis will hold through March 26, 2028.
The Nodes are our collective destiny compass. The North Node is where we’re being asked to grow into. The South Node is what we’re being asked to release. This shift is significant and I want to give it some real texture.
The North Node has been in Pisces since January 2025. That chapter was about surrender. Faith. Dissolving the boundaries between self and something larger. Letting go of perfectionism and the exhausting Virgo South Node loop of analyzing and improving and never quite feeling like enough. That chapter was asking us to soften.
Now we’re moving into something different. North Node in Aquarius asks for community. Collective vision. Your specific gift brought to the group. Not dissolving into the whole as Pisces asked, but showing up as your distinct self in service of something larger than just you. There’s a difference between merging with the collective and contributing to it. Aquarius knows that difference. Aquarius is also about innovation, about what’s genuinely new, about humanity choosing its direction consciously rather than just being swept along by forces it doesn’t understand.
And the South Node moves into Leo. What are we releasing? Performance. Ego. The need to be seen, to be the star, to curate a version of yourself that’s more about validation than truth.
I want to connect this to something that I’ve been thinking about a lot, because the last time the North Node was in Aquarius was December 2007 to August 2009. And what was happening then? The 2008 global financial crisis. The structures of the old economy cracking open. And also, Facebook was exploding. Twitter was becoming the internet’s town square. The iPhone had just launched and was changing how humans relate to information and each other.
Think about what those platforms were in their original form. Facebook was a way to stay connected with your actual community. To see what your friends and family were up to. To feel that your people were close even when they weren’t. Twitter was an unfiltered town square. A place to hear about what was happening in the world directly, to organize around things that mattered, to be part of a larger conversation without a media gatekeeper in between. Both of those were genuinely Aquarian impulses. Community. Collective connection. Access to information. Power to the people.
Then the North Node moved into Leo from May 2017 to November 2018. And look what happened. Facebook became Meta. Influencer culture peaked. The platforms shifted from community to performance. From see each other to see me. Instagram became a highlight reel. Twitter became X, now run by the richest man in the world, and it does not have the same feel or purpose it started with. The original community impulse got Leo-fied. It became about visibility, ego, personal brand, who’s the star.
And now the North Node is back in Aquarius. With Pluto already in Aquarius doing its long transformation work. With Uranus in Gemini accelerating how information moves. The question I keep sitting with is: are we about to see a return to the original impulse? A push back toward genuine community connection, toward platforms that serve people rather than extract from them, toward information that actually informs rather than just inflames?
I don’t know the answer. But I think it’s one of the most interesting questions the sky is asking us right now.
What to do with all of this
I want to bring this back to you personally because it’s easy for this scale of astrology to feel abstract and overwhelming.
Stand on the shore. That’s the sailboat image. You don’t have to figure out everything that’s coming. You don’t have to have a plan for all of it. What you can do right now is get clear on what you’re planting in this lunar cycle. What is the circling thing that’s finally getting named? What’s the intention that’s been waiting for you to come back to it?
And tend your inner world. With Mercury retrograde still in the picture until the 23rd, the interior work is more important than the exterior launches right now. Journal. Reflect. Let things surface without immediately needing to act on them.

The energy coming is genuinely hopeful. Not in a naive or bypassing way, because Jupiter opposing Pluto still has teeth and the transformation is real. But the overall architecture of this moment, the Barbault Basket, the rising Cyclic Index, the harmonious outer planet alignments, points toward rebuilding. Toward reconstruction. Toward a new era being born.
We are on the shore. The sailboat is on its way.
The verdict
This is a ten day window of some of the most significant collective astrological energy of the decade. Stand on the shore. Let what’s circling finally get named. Mind your inner world while Mercury is still retrograde. And by July 27th, be ready to grow into something new.
